How do you clean tear stains off a white dog's face?

Here are some tips for cleaning tear stains off a white dog's face:

• Wipe the face with a warm, damp washcloth daily. This helps remove tears, residue, and dirt that can stain the fur.

• Gently brush the fur with a soft bristle brush. This helps exfoliate the hair and loosen some of the staining.

• Use a tear stain removal wipe or solution specifically made for dogs. There are many tear stain removal wipes and shampoos available at pet stores. Follow the instructions for use.

• Apply cornstarch or baby powder to the stained areas. Let it sit for 30 minutes then wipe off with a damp cloth. The powder absorbs moisture that can cause staining.

• Use hydrogen peroxide. Apply 3% hydrogen peroxide directly to the stained areas and rub it in. Leave it on for about 5 minutes then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Peroxide lightens the stains.

• Give your dog fish oil supplements. This can sometimes help reduce tearing which will lessen tear stains over time.

• Have your vet check for any eye infections or other underlying medical conditions that could be causing excess tearing. Treatment of the underlying issue may help the tear stains fade over time.
